10 Japanese Gift Ideas

Looking for some ideas for Japanese gifts for the holidays? Here are 10 of some of my favorite items!

These are all from Musubi Kiln, a Japanese tableware, homeware, and gift brand. They have a wide variety of quality items from Japan and many come in beautiful sets and boxes. And they are having a big holiday sale from now through 12/3/24 (items on the list may or may not be on sale).

Check out my video for my recommendations – everything is also linked below with more details on why I chose the items.

USUKIYAKI RYOUKA LOTUS PETAL PLATE
This plate is so elegant, beautiful and unique. I love all the pieces from the Usukiyaki line but this is easily one of the most stunning. It’s also matte, which I love. This plate comes in a really beautiful Usukiyaki branded box.

NANBU IRONWARE NABE
It’s hot pot season so I think everyone should have a nabe. Nabe is a traditional Japanese pot. Many are earthenware but this one is iron. Musubi Kiln has a variety of types of nabe but I love the look of this one so much. This nabe comes in a medium-nice branded box.

CAMELLIA KUTANI YUNOMI TEA CUP
This is my *favorite* tea cup in my collection. If you have been following me for a while, I’m sure you have seen me share this before. It’s a great size (not too small) and the shape is easy to hold and drink from. The colors and design is so bold yet earthy and I love that the gold is actually metallic.

WAKASA LAQUERWARE CHOPSTICK SET
I love practical, useful gifts so I think chopsticks make fantastic gifts – especially when they are packaged as beautifully as these! Musubi Kiln has a wide variety of chopsticks and chopstick sets but I love the cute rabbit and sakura design on this particular one and I also think they would work beautifully for Oshogatsu (New Years).

YAMANAKA LAQUERWARE CHILDREN’S ANIMAL SERIES
If you are looking for something special for a child that also makes a great keepsake, I definitely recommend this Laquerware Animal Series. I got the plate, bowl, and spoon with the elephant design (there are a couple other pieces I didnt get) for Rei’s first birthday so clearly I think it’s perfect for a gift. I will link each piece I got below:

MINO WARE DONBURI BOWL WITH LID
I have shared this on my social media a number of times and people always ask me where it’s from. I love this traditional design for this lidded bowl.

NECO HASAMI CAT PLATE SET
This is one of my favorite plate sets to use at home when I need small plates. It has 5 plates, each slightly different. I love the traditional white and indigo coloring. It also comes in a really cute branded wood box.

HANAMI DANGO CHOPSTICK REST
I think chopstick rests are such a cute addition to any place setting and are a really fun gift. Musubi Kiln has tons of unique options and I especially love this Hanami Dango one. And during the sale its amazingly only $5 USD!

HANAZUME SAKE SET
One of my favorite gifts to give is a sake set along with a bottle of good or pretty sake. This Hanazume Kutani sake set is so stunning and is also perfect for Oshogatsu (New Years). These come in a pretty box.

CHOEMON TEA SET
Aside from sake sets, I love gifting tea sets with some nice Japanese tea. I absolutely love the Choemon Kutani Yunomi Tea Cups. They have traditional elemnts like the shape, interior pattern, and white and indigo coloring, but they also have a fun, modern take with the designs on the front. For the tea set I put together, I chose the skateboarder and the boombox. I also paired it with a simple, traditional pot. I will link them all separately below:

BONUS: WAVE BIRDS FUROSHIKI
Furoshiki is a traditional multi-purpose Japanese cloth. It can be used to carry things (like turning it into a bag or sack) or is often used to wrap things (like bento or to wrap around things before you store it). Furoshiki are also a fantastic sustainable holiday wrapping option! They look gorgeous as gift wrap and they can be reused and enjoyed. I have even see pretty ones pressed and framed as artwork. Musubi Kiln has a wide variety of Furoshiki but I am obsessed with this Wave Birds one as well as this Daruma one.
