What is Japanese Christmas Cake?
Christmas Cake is a tradition that started in Japan post-WW2 once processed sugar grew in popularity and accessibility.
It is most typically a Japanese strawberry shortcake: a soft and light sponge cake with whipped cream and cut strawberry filling, that is topped with cute Christmas decorations. But now, you can get all different flavors!
You can find these cakes across Japan, from fancy bakeries to convenince stores, and they are usually enjoyed on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Cake is one of my favorite Christmas Traditions. Its so fun and delicious and I hope everyone can experience the joy at least once!
They can still be difficult to find out of Asia, but as more Japanese or Asian bakeries are being made in the US, we now have more options for Christmas cake!
