1. Tiny Diners Kids Dinnerware Set

This adorable dinnerware set from Musubi Kiln is made of Hasami procelain and is perfect for special occassions or on the daily. It is such a special and beautiful set that can be saved and handed down. This is also a memorable gift for a new baby or for a birthday.

Rei has the Blue Bear set. It includes: a sectioned plate, rice bowl, mug, and chopsticks.

2. Play Couch (Nugget or similar)

Both my husband and I agree that the best and most-used item in our household with a toddler is our Nugget Play Couch. We absolutely love this thing – and Rei loves it even more. It has given us endless hours of creativity and physical play. While we can personally attest to the quality of a Nugget since that is what we have, I heard the Yourigami one (which can also be purchased from Costco) is also very good.

3. Sushi Train

Bring a revolving sushi restaurant to your home! This sushi train is fun for kids and adults. We used this to eat sushi on Rei’s birthday and he had a blast with it! He likes to use it as a toy and puts little stuffed animals on it to ride around, too.

4. Happi Hoodie

These hoodies by Shoyu Drip use Japanese-inspired fabrics and are created with festive happi coat (a traditional type of Japanese clothing) in mind. They have both kids sizes and adults so its a great family gift! The fabric is thick and soft – we love wearing ours.

5. Little Sumo Book Series

This Little Sumo book series by Sanae Ishida is one of Rei’s favorite series right now. These books are bilingual (Japanese and English) and are a great way to learn Japasese basics like colors and numbers. I am also in love with the cute and vibrant artwork.

Rei actually received these as a gift last Christmas (shoutout to Wes & Qingli!). Books are always a great gift to give.

6. Foam Blocks

These large foam blocks were gifted to Rei last Christmas and they have been one of his favorite things to play with. Since they are large, they are easy to use – even from a young age. They are foam so they don’t hurt if they get thrown or fall down on your kid. We make arches to roll balls under, bridges to drive cars across, and pretend food to eat. The possibilities are endless! Oh – they are water resistant too, so they can be used in the bath.

7. Play Kitchen

One of the first items that most kids who come over for play dates gravitate to is our Play Kitchen. We have the Lalo Play Kitchen, which we love, but there are so many different kinds out there. Rei absolutey loves pretend cooking on here and has made some very creative meals (and lots of matchas for mama).

8. Magnetic Tile Race Car Track

So we do not actually have the Picasso Magnetic Tile Race Car Track yet, but Rei will be receiving it from Baba (grandma) this Christmas (shhh don’t tell him). I have heard great things about this from all over the internet and it looks so creative and fun!

9. Sereed Balance Bike

Another one of Rei’s most-used toys is his Sereed 4-wheel Toddler Balance Bike. This was a birthday gift for his first birthday and he has used it every single day since (we use this inside the house). This is also one of the most popular things in when kids comes over for play dates. His Baba (grandma) also got him the 2-Wheel Balance Bike which is great for kids who are ready to start on two wheels. We love both!
