Howl's Moving Castle Breakfast

Howl’s Breakfast (Howl’s Moving Castle) / ハウルの朝ごはん (ハウルの動く城)

Next in my Studio Ghibli recipe series was the second most requested from you all on Instagram: the Breakfast from Howl’s Moving Castle! This is also one of my favorite Ghibli food scenes so I can understand why.

In case you missed it, I’m posting a series of Studio Ghibli food recipes and cooking videos so you can eat the delicious food you see in Studio Ghibli films in real life!

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favorite Ghibli films (cause Howl is a dream, obviously). The breakfast scene is probably one of the most popular food scenes out of all the Ghibli films, or even anime in general. While it’s a very simple Western breakfast, it just looks SO DARN GOOD while they’re cooking and eating it.

Some notes on the ingredients:

I think most Western households will have all of these items already at home. But the most important thing to note is the BACON.

Make sure you get thick-cut, good bacon. If you’re in Japan, please don’t use Japanese bacon and think it’s okay (Japanese bacon is so floppy and sad). You want something hearty, fatty, and that crisps up well – just like in the movie. Even the bacon I used wasn’t as thick as I wanted but the bacon that I wanted to get wouldn’t have arrived in time for filming so I made do with the thickest I could find locally.

The cheese in the film looks like swiss cheese so that is what I went with. You can use whatever cheese you have on hand!

Howls’ Breakfast is a super easy, quick meal to make and is just as mouthwatering in real life.
