Yakisoba / 焼きそば

Japanese stir fried noodles in a sweet and savory sauce. One of Japan's most popular street foods!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 shiitake mushrooms
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • 5 cabbage leaves
  • 1 lb thinly sliced pork or beef
  • 1 package yakisoba noodles
  • 4-6 tbsp yakisoba sauce either packaged or using the following recipe

Homemade Yakisoba Sauce

  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 4 tsp oyster sauce
  • 4 tsp ketchup

Instructions

  • Slice the onion, carrot, and mushrooms into very thin slices. Cut the cabbage into bite-sized pieces and cut the meat into 1 inch pieces.
  • In a wok or frying pan, heat oil on medium-high heat and cook the meat until almost cooked through.
  • Add the onion and carrot and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the cabbage and mushroom and cook until slightly tender.
  • Separate the yakisoba noodles and add them to the wok. Lower the heat to medium and mix ingredients with the noodles well.
  • Add yakisoba sauce (either from a premade sauce or combine the sauce ingredients together) and mix well. If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can add more sauce.
  • Garnish and serve with chopped green onions.
