Sylvia Wakana - Pork Rice Roll

Pork Rice Roll / ポークライスロール

A smaller, elevated version of a Pork Rice Roll from Tokyo Disney Sea! Crispy pork wrapped around soft steamed rice in a slightly sweet sauce.

In case you haven’t heard, Tokyo Disney Sea’s food is AMAZING. They have so many unique items (like milk tea flavored popcorn and scallop croquette sandwiches) but one of my favorite things there is a Pork Rice Roll, crispy pork wrapped around rice in a lightly sweet sauce (you can see me eat it in this “Eating Through Tokyo Disney Sea” video I did on my channel). It seems really boring but it’s still one of my favorite things there, I didn’t want to live another day without it so I decided to make some at home.

I made them smaller, so you can pick it up with chopsticks and so they can fit in a bento lunch. I also kicked up the rice a level by adding some shiso to add some brightness. Still one of my fave dishes ever.

Course: Main Course
Keyword: bento, pork, rice bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 6 pieces thinly sliced pork
  • 4 pieces ooba (shiso leaves)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tbsp oil

Sauce

  • 1 tbsp sake
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger

Instructions

  • Slice ooba/shiso leaves into thin strips.
  • In a large bowl, mix the cooked rice, ooba, and sesame seeds well. Divide the mixed rice into 6 equal parts. Roll each part into a cylindrical ball.
  • Put a piece of pork on a cutting board and sprinkle one side with corn starch. Flip over and put one rice ball at one end of the pork and roll up until the pork piece covers and surrounds the rice. Repeat to make 6.
  • Put oil in a frying pan and heat on medium high. Place the rolls seam side down into the pan and cook until browned and crispy. Rotate and repeat on all sides until fully cooked.
  • Add the sauce ingredients to the pan and mix. Cook and rotate the rolls in the sauce until it thickens.
