Steak Rolls / 牛肉巻き

These steak rolls glazed in a light teriyaki sauce will be the star of any bento!

I’m always trying to find ways to keep bento lunches interesting since I make them daily for Roy. To be honest, I fail most of the time and make them really simple and “boring” but sometimes I make things, like these steak rolls, that remind me that simple and easy dishes don’t have to be boring.

These beef and veggie rolls are glazed in a light teriyaki sauce. They have great texture and are bite-size which is perfect for a bento. They are also versatile (my favorite!). You can switch up the veggies inside and use almost anything: green onions, bell peppers, and even cheese!

Don’t forget! If you don’t have an Asian or Japanese market close by, check MY PANTRY for ingredients/condiments. I also have one of my fave bento boxes on my TOOLS page. Related items can also be found down below in the “Shop this post” section.

Steak Rolls / 牛肉巻き

Beef and veggies, rolled into a fun package and glazed in a light teriyaki sauce.
Keyword: beef, bento, roll

Ingredients

  • 3 oz carrots cut into 2 inch sticks
  • 3 oz green beans
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced steak/beef
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp sake

Sauce

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp sake
  • 1 tbsp mirin

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, put enough water to cover the veggies. Bring to a boil, put in veggies, and cook for 1-2 minutes (or until veggies are slightly cooked).
  • Lay out a slice of meat and season with salt and pepper. Put in some green beans and carrots (or whatever veggies you desire) at one end of the meat and roll upward to make rolls. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  • Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  • In a pan, heat oil on medium-high heat. Place the steak rolls onto the pan seam side down. Cook all sides of the steak rolls until it's nicely browned all the way around.
  • Once the meat is cooked, reduce the heat to medium and add sake. Cook covered until the sake has evaporated.
  • Add the sauce ingredients into the pan and rotate the steak rolls so they are evenly coated with the sauce. Transfer steak rolls to a plate.
  • Reduce the sauce in half, or until thickened. Pour the sauce onto the steak rolls and serve!

Notes

You can use any veggies inside that you’d like (or even cheese!).
