Sylvia Wakana - Online Japanese Markets

Where to Buy Japanese Ingredients & Food Online

Don’t have a Japanese store nearby or easy access to Japanese/Asian ingredients? Here are some online stores where you can get Japanese ingredients and snacks online!

One of the most common questions I get as a Japanese food creator is “Where can I buy Japanese ingredients online?”

I know it’s hard to find Japanese or even Asian ingredients outside of Japan or major cities with big Japanese populations. In LA, I’m lucky to live walking distance to a couple of large Japanese markets and within 15 minute driving distance to about 7 total. They carry almost everything I need from Japanese produce, specialty items, seasonal items, snacks, pantry items, and even pre-made bento and sushi.

Many of you may not have access to such a luxury which means you have to turn to online shops. While online shops are a bit more limited, they are more accessible and have more options than ever and I hope they continue to expand so everyone can have access to all Japanese ingredients and food everywhere!

Because I have access to Japanese markets, I want to note I have not tried all of these online shops myself. However, I did try to make sure these aren’t super sketchy ones for you.

The following list is broken down into sections:

  • Groceries
  • Wagyu
  • Japanese Snacks
  • Sake
  • Tableware & Japanese Cooking Equipment
  • Japanese Subscription Boxes
  • Japanese Dollar Store

If you prefer seeing this in video form rather than reading a list, you can find the accompanying YouTube video here:

I will also be updating this list periodically as I find more reliable shops. If you have any that aren’t on this list that you like, please let me know in the comments!
